Discharge Prints
Are you looking for a way to soften up your prints so they feel virtually like the fabric you’re printing on? If so, you’re not alone! Lots of custom garment designers are exploring the wonders of discharge prints and reaping the benefits! You see, screen printing is a staple in the garment customization world, but not all screen printing inks are the same. Many printing companies use plastisol ink as a standard printing ink because it’s easy to use and it’s more affordable, but that’s not the only option. You can use a special type of ink to do discharge prints that feel like they’ve always been a part of the fabric!
Discharge Prints
Discharge printing is really just acrylic printing inks mixed with a special discharge agent, but the results are spectacular. Standard plastisol inks don’t contain a solvent and require heat to cure which has a stiffening effect to the print. When you print all over designs in plastisol, it essentially feels like you’re wearing a plastic vest on a T shirt and that’s no good for retail designs. Discharge prints are done with a water based ink so the result is much softer and lighter than plastisol. The discharge agent is responsible for removing the color from the garment so that you have a nice base for your preferred color to “pop” on the fabric!
Since discharge prints don’t need to be underbased to produce vibrant colors, you need even less ink which translates to ultra-soft printing!
