The resulting print has a smooth finish that you can run your hand across that won’t feel like sandpaper.  The shimmer is more subtle and grants a pearlescent shine to your ink color, so it’s great for fashion prints where feel is as important as look.

Discharge Ink Printing

If you are a fan of screen printing, but wish there was a way to get softer prints that are still vibrant, then you’ll be glad to know that discharge ink printing is a service you can take advantage of!  Most screen printing is done with plastisol ink because it’s the industry standard, but a one-size-fits-all approach won’t work for everyone and every design. Plastisol ink dries stiff and the more layers you put on, the thicker it gets, which is bothersome to some people and can really weigh down a lightweight garment.  If you opt for discharge printing instead, you can still get amazing color and quality while keeping the print soft and flexible.

Discharge Printing

Discharge ink is simply a water based ink used for screen printing that has an added discharge agent in it.  The discharge agent is responsible for removing the existing dye from cotton and replacing it with the color of your choice.  Water based inks are much thinner than plastisol which means that your prints will have that “barely there” feeling when you run your hand across them; you’ll really just be getting the feel of the fabric.  Discharge printing is, for this exact reason, wonderful for lightweight and flowy garments where you don’t want them weighed down by a heavy imprint.
