Are you involved in the custom screen printing world?  Have you heard about printing with waterbased ink?  Lots of custom screen printing is done with plastisol inks because they’re easy to use and they are cost effective, but they aren’t the only option.  Plastisol inks don’t contain a solvent so you need to heat them to a specific temperature for them to cure which results in a more rigid print than other options.  For promotional goods or heavyweight materials where the softness of the print isn’t a concern, plastisol is perfect, but what if it does matter?  That’s where printing with waterbased ink comes in!

Waterbased Ink

Waterbased ink is a different kind of ink that can be used for screen printing that will give a different feel from your prints.  Waterbased ink does contain a solvent which means it can dry up when exposed to air, so you mix what you need as any excess cannot be reclaimed for future use.  The trade-off is that waterbased inks penetrate deeper into the fabric and leave barely any hand to your print.  Waterbased inks are great for all over prints too because it can easily go across seams and it’s lightweight on the garment despite the full coverage.

Where can you go to find custom screen printing using waterbased ink?  That’s the easiest part because you’ve already discovered us at AMBRO Manufacturing.  AMBRO Manufacturing is a contract apparel customization company so we have lots of garment decoration services for you to try out!  We’ve been in business for over 30 years so you can certainly trust in our professional quality!  It’s easy to get your own project started with us as all you have to do is reach out to one of our representatives and we can guide you from there.  You can contact us to place an order, or to find out more about our company and services,  by email or by giving us a call at (908) 806-8337.

Here at AMBRO Manufacturing we sometimes get questions asking us what the difference is between plastisol ink screen printing and water based ink screen printing.  Some people don’t even realize that with screen printing comes many different types of inks to choose from depending on the material and final look you desire!  Plastisol ink screen printing is common because plastisol inks are more affordable and easily reclaimed for reuse, but it’s not the only option!

Plastisol Ink Screen Printing

Here at AMBRO Manufacturing we handle screen printing with many different specialty inks.  We’ve got plastisol ink screen printing alongside water based and discharge ink printing services so you’ll have the best of both worlds.  Water based inks differ from plastisol inks because they contain a solvent which makes them susceptible to drying out when exposed to air.  Water based ink is thinner than plastisol ink and when it dries it feels almost like the fabric because it has such soft hand.  Since water based inks are one-time use and cannot be reclaimed, they tend to be a little more expensive than the plastisol alternative.  The tradeoff is in the softness of the print though!

Plastisol ink screen printing versus water based ink screen printing isn’t a case of which one is better or worse, but rather which one is right for your project at the time.  Some designs you’d prefer to do with plastisol, but others might be a better fit for water based inks.  We at AMBRO Manufacturing can help you figure out which works best for you and then produce them for you!  We are a contract apparel customization company with over 30 years of experience, so we have the experience and the resources to get you to your printing goals.  If you would like to place an order with us, or if you would like to learn more about our company and services, you can contact us by email or by giving us a call at (908) 806-8337.

Given the proper amount of time, any industry is subject to an evolution.  The technology and marketplace around the industry start to change and grow as consumer needs change.  In the screen printing world, one of these developments was discharge screen printing.  To understand discharge screen printing, it’s important to first understand how it compares to traditional screen printing.

Discharge Screen Printing

Traditional screen printing previously used all plastisol inks.  These inks were great because they do not dry up so, if kept clean, they can be reused over and over again which is cost effective.  Plastisol inks, however, require strong cleaners to remove them from the screens which isn’t always the most environmentally-friendly.  Plastisol also leaves a “hand” to the print which means that you can feel the print on the shirt.  For some, a print with a hand is preferable while for others, they prefer printed garments without a hand.  Water based screen printing is a more recent development in printing technology that counteracts some of the disadvantages of plastisol screen printing.  With discharge screen printing, you are starting out with a water-based ink.

Water based screen printing gets its name from the way that it reacts with the garment to be printed.  The ink is formulated to remove the existing color from the fabric, “discharge”, and then deposit a new, desired pigment into the garment.  It is a rather fascinating process to watch because the discharge ink reacts to the heat during the drying process.  The ink is printed on clear and when it passes through the dryer, it comes out as a fully rendered color print.  If discharge screen printing sounds like a service you are interested in, we’d love to help you create your own custom garments here at AMBRO Manufacturing.  You can contact us by email or by calling us at (908) 806-8337.

Discharge Screen Printing

If you ever thought about or made a screen printed shirts then you know a little about the process of how they are made. There is more than one type of screen printing inks that you can use. There is a process called discharge screen printing. If you don’t know what this process is then have a seat and let me tell you about it.

Discharge screen printing is when you use a water based ink that gets soaked into the fabric of the shirt. In the actual ink there is a discharge agent that is mixed into it that will remove the dye of the shirt when it is printed. In other words it is a similar look as if you bleached a dark colored shirt. Now to add a color to the area that the shirt dye is removed, the discharge ink has to get a water based color added to the mixture.

Discharge Screen Printing

Discharge screen printing is a little cheaper than normal screen printing because of the type of ink that is used. It does not need to have an under base which is a layer of all the colors combined so that colors will look vibrant on the shirts, since the shirt is getting the dye removed of the area that there will be color. Also, these types of printing yields a softer feeling shirt, because you won’t be able to feel the ink like you do on normal screen printing.

If you love a screen printed shirt but don’t want some of the attributes that normal screen printing has then discharge screen printing is the way to go. Not many screen printers use this or have the inks. AMBRO Manufacturing is the one place that can now do this type of printing. So email us or give us a call at (908) 806 8337.
