The one thing with discharge inks is that they have to be done on 100% cotton and the color of the fabrics must be very dark like Black or Navy. The reason for this is because the discharge agent in the inks actually pulls the pigment dye out of the shirt, returning the shirt back to its original natural color. Printing with Acrylic Ink

If you’re looking for a way to print your custom designs so that they are ultra soft and lightweight, then you should consider printing with acrylic ink instead of plastisol ink.  Plastisol ink is widely used in screen printing because it’s easy to use and reuse, which makes it more affordable and convenient, but it’s not without its own drawbacks.  Plastisol inks don’t contain a solvent so in order for them to dry, you need to heat them to a certain temperature which will cure them.  Once they are cured they stiffen up a bit which really starts to make a difference once you get a lot of ink coverage on the garment.  However, if you do screen printing with acrylic ink, you won’t have to worry about stiff and thick prints anymore.

Printing with Acrylic Ink

Acrylic inks contain a solvent which makes them thinner and more fluid than plastisol.  The benefit of this formulation is that it penetrates deeper and can easily go across seams which is ideal for all over garment printing.  Also, acrylic inks leave behind softer prints that feel nearly like the shirt itself!  After a couple washes the print will soften to the point that it will feel like it’s always been a part of the garment from the start.
