Different Methods of Printing on Fabric

There are many different kinds of garments and designs out there and as such there are many different methods of printing on fabric.  Depending on the method or mixture of methods you use, you can achieve all kinds of looks, even with the same artwork!  So how can you know which ones to use for your designs?  Here at AMBRO Manufacturing we are capable of many different methods of printing on fabric, so we can help you find your way to high quality printing, no problem!

Different Methods of Printing on Fabric

One of the most popular (and oldest) methods for printing on fabric is screen printing.  In screen printing, silk screens are covered with a waterproof emulsion that blocks the holes in the silk mesh.  The desired artwork is etched into the screen (or screens if multiple colors are in the design) which will now allow ink to pass through those specific areas.  Colored inks are then dragged across the screen over the garment which leaves the print on the surface of the garment.  After drying, the ink is cured and the print is ready to go.  Screen printing can be done with plastisol inks or with water based inks to achieve different looks and different feels.

Another wildly popular method of printing is dye sublimation printing.  This type of printing has the artwork printed digitally onto a transfer sheet with specialized dyes.  The transfer sheet gets heat pressed onto the fabric which causes the dyes to vaporize and get absorbed into the garment to lock in the print.  These are only some of the different methods of printing on fabric, but there are many more extensions like foil printing, oversized printing, mixed media printing, high density printing, and printing with scented inks just to name a few.  If you are interested in learning more about the different methods of printing we’re capable of here at AMBRO Manufacturing, you can contact us by email or by giving us a call at (908) 806-8337.
