Working with a professional screen printer is always a wise choice because screen printing is a pretty technical process.  To get your artwork onto a garment with screen printing, you first need to separate the artwork into layers of color.  Each portion of your image that contains the same color gets captured on a single layer that will get etched onto a silk screen.  So if you have a 2 color image you’ll need 2 screens, one for each color.  Once you factor in things like squeegee pressure, color mixing, dryer settings, and the like, you can see how much of headache it can be to try to do it on your own.
